About the position

The 2026 Summer Intern - Clay Sculpting position at General Motors is designed to expose qualified candidates to creative careers in automotive design. Interns will gain hands-on experience in clay sculpting, learning about aesthetic judgments, technology, production methods, program timelines, and materials used in the field. The role requires candidates to work collaboratively with Design, Sculpting, and Engineering teams to interpret sketches and develop clay scale models of future automotive themes. Interns will present their finished models to leadership at midterm and final show events, and will support general sculpting assignments within the studio environment.

Responsibilities

  • Work collaboratively with Design, Sculpting, and Engineering to interpret sketches and develop clay scale models of a future automotive theme.
  • Present finished models to Design and Sculpting Leadership at midterm and final show events.
  • Support general sculpting assignments within the studio environment.

Requirements

  • Pursuit of a Bachelor's degree or Advanced degree in Industrial Design, Transportation Design, Fine Arts, Sculpture, or Ceramics.
  • Must be graduating between December 2026 and May 2028.
  • Able to work full-time, 40 hours per week.

  • Demonstrates creative ability with supporting 3D portfolio.
  • Basic understanding of design and sculpting principles including proportion, line, and surface.
  • Proficient interpersonal skills to work effectively in a collaborative team environment.
