Account Executive - Japan

Discord is used by over 200 million people every month for many different reasons, but there's one thing that nearly everyone does on our platform: play video games. Over 90% of our users play games, spending a combined 1.5 billion hours playing thousands of unique titles on Discord each month. Discord plays a uniquely important role in the future of gaming. We are looking for an Account Executive to join our growing APAC Gaming Advertising Solutions team, reporting to our Director of Gaming Sales, APAC. This role is based in Japan and is perfect for someone passionate about the Japanese gaming market who wants to help game companies connect with their most dedicated player communities on Discord.

What you'll be doing

  • Prospect, source, and close new marketing opportunities with Japanese game publishers, studios, and their media agencies to hit revenue and account goals
  • Build and deepen strategic relationships with key decision-makers at Japanese game companies and agencies, navigating Japanese business practices and decision-making processes
  • Create compelling sales presentations and proposals using internal and external data relevant to Japanese gaming audiences
  • Become an expert in Discord solutions and adapt recommendations to suit varying client needs within the Japanese market
  • Demonstrate expertise around gaming, media, and advertising to clients, within Discord, and in industry forums

What you should have

  • 4+ years of direct experience in media buying, brand marketing, digital advertising, or ad sales in the Japanese gaming industry
  • Native or business-level fluency in Japanese and professional proficiency in English
  • Proven experience delivering against account and revenue goals, with deep understanding of Japanese gaming clients' challenges and objectives
  • Strong understanding of Japanese business culture, relationship-building practices (including Nemawashi), and marketing/ad tech ecosystem
  • Willingness to travel within Japan and occasionally across APAC for client meetings

The OTE salary range for this position is 17,600,000 - 19,800,000 Yen + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role and level. Within the range, individual pay is determined by additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Please note that the compensation details listed reflect the salary only, and do not include benefits.
