Data Science / Computer Science Intern (Summer 2026)

Duration: 10 Weeks

Schedule: Approximately 20 hours/week (4 hours/day)

Compensation: $25/hour

About the Role

We are seeking a motivated Data Science or Computer Science student to support an applied research initiative focused on aviation safety and AI-assisted narrative analysis. This role is ideal for students interested in Python, NLP Pipeline workflows, AI applications, Taxonomy generation and real-world analytics problems.

What You’ll Do

  • Work with structured and unstructured aviation safety datasets
  • Use Python or similar capabilities to clean, organize, and analyze textual data
  • Establish text-processing pipeline that ingests, cleans, and organizes unstructured narrative data
  • Apply NLP analysis to identify emerging safety trends in the data
  • Conduct taxonomy analysis to recommend new and improved taxonomy
  • Work with other research interns to prepare structured evidence packets
  • Assist with exploratory analytics and data visualization
  • Support organization and documentation of research outputs

What We’re Looking For

  • Sophomore or Junior pursuing a degree in Data Science, Computer Science, CMDA, Engineering, or related field
  • Experience with Python and data analysis
  • Experience in the application of NLP to textual data to identify trends and insights
  • Background and/or interest in Taxonomy generation based on application of NLP to large bodies of data
  • Interest in AI and large language model applications
  • Strong problem-solving and organizational skills
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

Nice to Have

  • Experience with pandas, visualization tools, or lightweight analytics workflows
  • Coursework or projects involving AI, NLP, analytics, or data engineering
  • Research, internship, or project experience using real-world datasets
