Opportunity:

The Department of North Zone Medical Affairs, on behalf of Alberta Health Services, is actively recruiting Family Medicine Physicians to establish full-time practices throughout the North Zone. We have multiple communities in need of this service. This position would potentially provide services to a Community Clinic, Emergency Room Coverage, Inpatient & Outpatient Services, as well as Long Term Care.

Once chosen, the successful candidate may choose to operate their business by joining an existing practice or opening their own practice. This is the candidate's independent business decision and will not be managed through the recruitment process.

Job Duties:

  • Reside in and have as his/her primary residence within the community you serve. Establish and maintain full time community-based practice within the community. Obtain and maintain an AHS Medical Staff Appointment and appropriate privileges to provide the Services. Provide call assistance as per call schedules, including full time participation in the Emergency Department call schedule, as required; Abide by the AHS Medical Staff Bylaws, the AHS Medical Staff Rules, and AHS policies. Participate in quality improvement programs and initiatives undertaken within the Department of Family Medicine; Participate in relevant Continuing Medical Education (CME) programs. Contribute to and participate in other administrative duties, as assigned. Work collaboratively with peers and care team colleagues in support of patient care.

Salary Details:

The average gross income of a Family Medicine Physician in Alberta is $300,000-600,000 CAD (£160,000-321,000 GBP). Compensation for this opportunity is based on a fee for-service model and may include additional program stipends. Total compensation for fee-for-service billings vary by individual practitioner, and the compensation shown reflects the average range of wages for this specialty as reported by Alberta Health. Financial incentives such as reimbursable travel arrangements and relocation support may be available.

Multiple Alberta Medical Association (AMA) Compensation Programs, including the Rural Remote Northern Program (RRNP), which provides a variable fee premium across the North Zone in the range of 5.54% to 35.80%. Qualifications:

  • Current Alberta Practice Permit or valid CPSA Letter of Eligibility to practice in the advertised position (proof to be included with application).
    • Physicians practicing in the UK with a Certificate of Completion of Training, or Certificate of Eligibility for Specialist Registration, are not required to rewrite any exams in order to be approved for accelerated licensure in Alberta, and can immediately start in independent practice.   • Recent and relevant experience (within the past two years) in all areas of practice required.
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS).

  • Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS)
  • College of Family Physicians of Canada (CCFP)
  • Advanced Life Support in Obstetrics (ALSO);
  • Pediatric Life Support (PALS);
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP);
  • Rural Emergency Room Experience
