Job Description
Title: Lifeguard
Reports to: General Manager/Supervisor
Supervises: No supervisory duties are included in this position
Basic Function: Observes swimmers to ensure safety; attends to the swimming pool area of
the clubhouse; maintain proper pool sanitation. Meet the needs of club
members and guests, to include the main pool and baby pool; patio area
from the clubhouse to fence line, and both men and women’s pool restrooms.
Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Supervises and observes swimmers in the Club pool and baby pool to ensure their safety.
2. Monitors pools at all times. When present, two lifeguards - one in chair when someone is in the pool - other guard sitting at side of pool or baby pool.
3. Maintain pool cleaning procedures of the main pool and baby pool to include: sweeping sides of pool and steps, pool floor bottom, hand rails, and check that chlorine levels meet state and local requirements.
4. Provide a clean environment: Empty and reline garbage cans; clean all tables/chairs/decks; clean and maintain men’s and ladies’ bathrooms; collect dirty towels and transfer back to men’s locker room for cleaning.
5. Provide a professional image. Dress in appropriate uniform. Keep busy. There is something always to do. No books, headsets, radios of any kind. No sitting under umbrellas with your friends. No personal phone calls in or out at pool area. No visiting friends allowed.
6. May administer first aid to minor cuts and bruises of swimmers.
7. Open and lock gate during normal business hours. Provide sign in sheets for members to check in.
8. Turn on and off chlorine machine before and after use.
9. Monitor towel usage. One towel per person daily. Do not let towels leave pool area.
10. Review opening and closing checklist during each shift making sure that all items are completed.

EQUIPMENT USED: Drop test kit, pool brushes, skimmer & Aqua Queen, lane lines, and starting platforms.
SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS: Must be properly trained and qualified as a lifesaver, competent in first aid and rescue methods and techniques, and in the use of artificial respiration and other resuscitation measures.
