About the Role

Our client, a pioneering VR development studio, is seeking a talented and innovative Remote VR Environment Artist to join their distributed team. This role is fully remote, allowing you to contribute your creative expertise from anywhere in the world. You will be responsible for designing, modeling, and texturing immersive and interactive virtual reality environments that captivate users. The ideal candidate has a passion for VR technology and a proven ability to create compelling visual experiences within real-time engines. You will work closely with designers and developers to translate conceptual ideas into functional and aesthetically pleasing virtual spaces. We are looking for a self-motivated individual who excels in a remote-first setting and is dedicated to pushing the boundaries of VR artistry.

Key Responsibilities Create high-quality 3D environment assets, including terrain, architecture, props, and foliage, optimized for real-time VR performance. Develop and implement detailed textures and materials using industry-standard tools to achieve a high level of visual fidelity. Collaborate with the design team to conceptualize and iterate on environment layouts, ensuring they are both visually engaging and intuitively navigable within VR. Optimize assets and scenes for performance in target VR platforms, adhering to strict polygon budgets and draw call limitations. Implement and integrate environment assets into the game engine (e.g., Unity, Unreal Engine), ensuring seamless integration with gameplay mechanics and VR interactions. Participate in art reviews, providing and receiving constructive feedback to ensure the highest quality standards. Research and stay updated on the latest trends and technologies in VR environment art and real-time rendering. Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues related to asset creation, integration, and performance within the VR environment. Requirements Proven experience as an Environment Artist with a strong portfolio showcasing work in real-time 3D environments, preferably for VR or game development. Proficiency in 3D modeling software such as Maya, Blender, or 3ds Max. Expertise in texturing and material creation using software like Substance Painter, Substance Designer, and Photoshop. Experience with a major game engine (Unity or Unreal Engine) and familiarity with its environment creation tools. A strong understanding of PBR workflows and material creation. Knowledge of VR performance optimization techniques and best practices. Excellent artistic fundamentals, including composition, color theory, and lighting. Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently and manage time effectively in a remote setting.
