About the position

The Software Engineering Manager will lead a team of software architects and engineers within Garmin's Automotive OEM division, focusing on innovative solutions for in-car technology. This role involves overseeing project execution, managing technology roadmaps, and collaborating with customers and partners on development initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership and direct the activities of software engineers focused on design of new products and enhancement of existing designs.
  • Directly supervise various levels of team members, providing individualized coaching, training, and mentoring.
  • Plan staffing, resource, and market requirements to complete projects.
  • Participate in recruiting activities, including reviewing staffing requirements, interviewing, hiring, training, and evaluating performance.
  • Maintain and adapt technology road maps by considering market trends and evaluating competing solutions.
  • Evaluate technical offers from software vendors for integration into Garmin's solutions.
  • Manage external partners and contractors to deliver quality software according to plan.
  • Prepare and present technical concepts and proposals to customers and stakeholders.
  • Coordinate and participate in customer requests for quotes (RFQs, RFPs, RFIs, etc.).

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree or above in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering or related field.
  • Minimum of 3 years experience as a manager/leader.
  • Demonstrated strong and effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Understanding of embedded systems and architectures.

Nice-to-haves

  • 5-10 years experience managing an embedded software team.
  • Customer-facing experience to include participating in RFQ/RFP process.
  • Extensive software architecture knowledge.
  • Experience working with Auto OEMs.
